Overview
Čukundeda Superiore is the rarest wine from Matijašević in Orašac, Šumadija: a dry Prokupac made from air-dried grapes (appassimento), produced so far only in the 2019 vintage. Only 827 bottles were made in total; HERITERRA received 30 bottles from the winery. James Suckling rates it 97 points.
Grape variety: Prokupac 100%. Vintage 2019.
Winemaking
The best Prokupac grapes are picked by hand and air-dried under strict control until they lose up to 50% of their weight. The wine then ages for one year in French barriques. Only the ideal weather and grape conditions of 2019 made this wine possible; there is no other vintage so far.
On the nose and palate
James Suckling describes an exciting wine inspired by great Amarone, showing dried berries, plum and chocolate. Pronounced, complex structure, dry.
