Medium golden yellow with a warm shimmer, clear and inviting in color.

On the nose

Characteristic aromatic spectrum: fresh apricot and mango combine with sage and hay. Jasmine blossoms and white tea add floral accents. The bouquet shows the complex varietal aromatics of Bagrina in its characteristic combination of fruit, herbs, and floral notes.

On the palate

Full-bodied and creamy in structure, yet characterized by pronounced minerality and a firm acidic structure. Aging in barriques provides depth and complexity. The finish is long and has a rich, persistent character.

Food pairing recommendations

Grilled seafood, roast chicken with herbs, creamy risotto, mild soft and semi-hard cheeses, pasta with white truffle sauce.

Overview

Bagrina 2023 is a single-varietal expression of the indigenous Bagrina grape from Vinarija Matalj in Negotinska Krajina. The varietal – named after the ancient Greek word for "blush", inspired by the reddish hues of ripe berries – was brought back from near oblivion by the Matalj winery and aged in barriques. The new vintage features a modernized label and a new bottle.

Origin

Vinarija Matalj in Negotin is one of Serbia's top wineries. On 27 hectares in the Terasa (Mihajlovac), Kremenjača (Tamnič) and Bukovo vineyards, some of the highest-rated Serbian wines are produced. Matalj was awarded "Serbia's Best Winery" in 2024.
