Estate vineyards around Smederevo

Vinarija Janko was founded in 2006 in Smederevo and moved into a modern new building on Rudnička Street in 2014, within sight of Villa Obrenović and overlooking the Danube. The wines are made exclusively from estate-grown grapes; the vineyard area has grown from an initial 3.5 hectares to around 14 to 16 hectares today in the Zlatno Brdo and Šeškovac sites near Ralja.

Varieties grown include indigenous Smederevka, along with Prokupac, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Rhine Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay; a clonal selection project for Prokupac is under way at Zlatno Brdo, with 16 clones planted. The range comprises 16 labels – seven whites, seven reds, one rosé and one sparkling wine – with a capacity of around 300'000 bottles.

Stari Zavet 2011 received the Decanter trophy for the region’s best red wine in 2014, while Bifora 2022 received a trophy at AWC Vienna.
