The heritage of Venčac

Legat 1903 winery lies in Banja near Aranđelovac in the heart of Šumadija, in the Venčac-Oplenac winegrowing area between the slopes of Venčac, Oplenac and the eastern slopes of Rudnik. It takes its name from the Venčac cooperative founded in 1903, considered synonymous with the beginnings of Serbian winemaking and viticulture and described in its day as one of the Balkans’ best wineries; King Petar I.

Karađorđević and later his son Aleksandar I. were members. Today’s vineyard covers 17 hectares at 390 metres above sea level. Muscat Petit Grain, Viognier, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot are grown; white wines from the 2021 and 2022 vintages are bottled at 13.5 to 14 per cent alcohol by volume.
